Tierneys Gift Candle Care & Safety

We take pride in crafting every Tierneys Gift candle to the highest standard, offering hours of soothing fragrance and a warm, relaxing ambience in your home.
For the best performance and safe use of your candle, please refer to the guidelines below.

Important Candle Safety

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

  • Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface (use a heatproof coaster to protect furniture).

  • Keep candles away from heat sources such as TVs and direct sunlight. Ensure at least 10 cm (4 inches) of space between burning candles.

  • Do not burn candles near flammable materials like curtains, bedding, or books.

  • Keep the wax pool free of matches or any debris.

  • Do not touch or move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is hot.

  • Do not burn the candle to the very bottom — extinguish it when approximately 1 cm of wax remains.

  • Some fragrances may cause allergic reactions. Please review the CLP label for any precautions.

Wick & Candle Care

  • Trim the wick to 5 mm (¼ inch) before lighting. If the flame smokes, extinguish, allow to cool, trim the wick, and relight.

  • Long or untrimmed wicks can create high flames, uneven burning, and soot buildup on the glass.

  • Use wick trimmers, scissors, or nail clippers to maintain wick length.

  • On the first burn, allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container to prevent tunnelling.

  • For best results, burn your candle for 3–4 hours at a time (do not exceed 4.5 hours).

  • If the wick moves off-centre, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and gently reposition the wick.

  • Remove any debris from the wax to maintain a clean, even burn.

Preventing Uneven Burning

  • The first burn is crucial. If the wax does not melt to the container’s edge, a “memory ring” forms and causes tunnelling on future burns.

  • To avoid this, allow the wax to fully liquefy on the first burn — roughly one hour per inch of candle diameter.

  • If stored in a cold environment, let the candle reach room temperature (around 20°C) before lighting.

Best Practices for Candle Storage

  • Keep candles covered during long-term storage to prevent dust buildup and protect the wax.

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid fading, discolouration, or cracking.

  • Always follow the safety instructions on the candle’s label.
