Our beautiful gift ranges include Crystal, Silver, China, Figurines, Tabletop, Lighting, Cutlery, Candles, Souvenirs, Jewellery & Men’s executive gifts. My father, Dick, started the business in Dún Laoghaire and concentrated mainly on costume jewellery, crystal, china tableware, figurines and toys. At that time we were one of largest stockists of Waterford Crystal in the country and we were shipping 50 parcels a week to North America and this would increase to 100+ during the Summer months. Waterford Crystal accounted for over 30% of our annual sales at that time. Unfortunately we no longer get the same volume of visitors from the USA. Tourism has returned to Dún Laoghaire with the recent arrival of cruise ships, as there is now limited facility for cruise ships to dock at Dublin Port.

Tierneys had the first Santa in Dún Laoghaire and it caused such a crowd with Santa arriving on a horse and cart that we had to close the store and the Gardaí had to disperse the crowds as traffic couldn’t pass. We exited the toy business when Tesco, then Quinnsworth, entered the toy market for the Christmas period, this was the main sales period for toys and they sold below cost, as a loss leader.

We have continually diversified our product mix over the years. Our loyal Irish Customers are what keep us in business. Jewellery now accounts for nearly 40% of our business. We carry one of the widest ranges of giftware in Ireland, with over 10,000 items from Ireland & around the world.

Our business has endured everything from technological changes to the Covid pandemic and has come out fighting. The most important change to our business has been the introduction of an epos system. We now have live stock feeds from our shops to our website. This has been a game changer for both our Company and our Customers. Customers can now check stock selection and availability online.

We operate retail stores at the Blanchardstown Centre and Dún Laoghaire and also operate our web business from here.
